Measurement standard
Simple rules that resist hindsight.
Public timestamp
The starting date is recorded when the pick is officially published, not selected later from a favorable price. Each comparison begins with the first trading-day close strictly after publication day in New York. We use completed observations through the previous New York calendar day, with identical stock and benchmark dates. Closed picks stop accumulating performance on their recorded closing date.
Consistent benchmark
Every pick is compared with the S&P 500 price index over the same dates.
Permanent history
Closed and unsuccessful picks remain in the record so the visible results do not depend on selective deletion.
Price-return scope
Figures use split-adjusted closing prices and exclude dividends, fees, taxes, spreads, and trading costs. They describe research outcomes, not investor account results.
Equal-weighted comparisons
The homepage averages every official pick equally, including closed picks, and averages the S&P 500 return over each pick’s own dates. The outperformance rate counts picks that strictly beat that benchmark; ties do not count as wins. These averages are not a cumulative portfolio return.
Complete observations
Each pick needs a starting close and a later close. If a pick is missing a matching price, we keep it in the record and withhold all three homepage performance figures until complete data is available. The full-record outperformance rate uses measured picks only; unavailable prices are never treated as zero.
